I was having intermittent wifi issues with my iPad, I did all the tweaks suggested by Apple, but no real luck. So I took it to my local Apple store where I had to change a cracked MacBook case on the off chance they could look at the iPad. Would you believe it the Apple genius tested it and just gave me a replacement. He said that the fault was there and he was happy to change it. Piece of luck, and it seems to be ok so far!

If others are having problems, do the same as me!

It seems to, normally I would loose connection upstairs, only lost it once so far, but it connected really quickly when it did

On some days at home I lose my wifi connection and get the connecting message twice in a row really fast and then it is fine. I am using an old Linksys G router with WEP encryption.

If this is all that happens I can live with it as it is really a non issue. However if it was happening every couple of hours I would go to Apple as well.

Did they give you a refurb in a brown box or a new one in a sealed box?

I'm also curious about this.. I have been having some wifi issues and called apple care and they sent me a box to send it in to be tested.. I was wondering

A) how do they test it? Because the wifi issues are so widespread and I would imagine all of apple uses airport extremes (stores, testing facility's) so how do they know what works and what doesn't?

B) By sending it in to apple am I less likely to get a replacement than if I went right to a store?

Anybody have answers for me?

Yep it was in a brown box, a refurb... There was me thinking it was a brand new one, oh well teach me to be so smug, well it least it works, still get the odd occasional loss of signal, I think my router can't get a signal that far upstairs, so may use an old router as an access point or a wifi extender to see if that increases the strength of the signal.

Should be OK, the Mrs is saying that I should go back and get a boxed new one, but knowing my luck that will be dud one, so am keeping this one and enjoying it!

Refurbs are almost like new things and still under the warranty, still, you could've bought a refurb and if it broke they would give you another refurb and you would've paid less since the beginning

In some ways, I'd actually prefer purchasing a refurb. My guess is that they're looked over more carefully/more closely than the standard units that are churning off the line. I'm sure apple wants to make sure that: when a refurb goes out the door, it's not returned with yet another problem.
