I found a scratch on my iPad yesterday, I've also had a dead pixel and a piece of dust for a while, but I never really paid attention to it. Now with the scratch I'm thinking of getting it replaced. For those who got it replaced, did you get a brand new model, or a refurb?

My guess is that if you are out of the 14 day return period, there would have to be something seriously wrong with your iPad to get it replaced.

I would not worry about getting a refurb unit. A lot of people who write about such things have said that they are better tested then the those that come direct from the factory. Those from the factory have only the minimal testing that all units get, but the refurbs get testing far beyond that to ensure that they meet all specs.

I agree with Tom G. I just got a reburb unit after my original iPad developed a backlighting problem -- the replacement seems perfect, from what I can tell so far.

If there's a problem with the new unit, I guess you just have to keep pushing. Apple doesn't seem to have a problem sending out replacements, so you can be as picky as you like.

1. Go online and setup a Genius Bar appointment.
2. Call your Apple Store.
3. Confirm they have iPads in stock so you can replace yours.
4. Get going. :)

It has a 1 year manufacturer warranty

Well if that will cover 1 dead pixel, a piece of dust under the screen, and a scratch then I guess it won't be a problem.

I have a piece of dust under my screen so I guess if I scratch or dent my ipad within the next year apple will replace it under warranty for the dust. Yay :D

Dust under screen generally means a replacement anyway...
Dead pixel would depend on the store you take it to, the genius you talk to, and the placement of the pixel. I took my MacBook Pro to a Store and spoke to the Head Genius there, the dead pixel was in the centre of the display, he replaced the display because of the placement of the pixel. THERE IS NO OFFICIAL DEAD PIXEL POLICY.
