iPad Return Question

Hey everyone, quick question:

I plan to return my Ipad today, and am going to wait for the 3G version. My question is: if I want my new Ipad to look exactly like the one I have now (photos, apps, movies, etc) what should I do in Itunes? Would it be safe to just put a password on my iPad (to protect my personal data) and return it that way, or do I need to backup in Itunes and reset it?

I'm just trying to accomplish 2 things - protect my personal data, and be ready for my new iPad so I don't have to redownload all of my apps, etc.

If you password protect an iPad and return it they will be able to bypass that in a heartbeat. Your personal data should be wiped but some snot nosed genius may decide to **** with you all the same.

I would back up in iTunes, save that backup elsewhere on your drive, then do a factory restore and return it. Drop that iPad backup back into the respective folder and when you get your 3G go ahead and see if you can't restore from a backup. If so great, if not, oh well. Rinse and repeat as they say.

After backing up you can use the utility in the iPad to reset everything back to factory default. Restoring your back up should get you back in short order but maybe not perfect.

I will be starting fresh with my 3G and not use my WiFi backup as sometimes it can bring something over you do not want and cause problems. I will start new and just re download my paid for software.

I would recommend starting fresh to avoid any problems caused by the backup.
