I start typing search terms in the URL like I’ve always done, and when I hit Space between search terms, it opens the tab at the left part of the screen rather than typing a space in the search bar. I am usually unable to search without actually going to google.com now (though sometimes it works). What is the correct way to Search in the new Safari? This is the one change that is making me regret upgrading to the beta.

I am not seeing this behaviour. Pressing the space bar works just fine for inserting a space character in the URL/Search bar. - Are you using a physical keyboard or touch?

I will say that Safari in general has been quite buggy for me though and I very frequently need to kill and restart the Safari app for it to work at all or nothing will load. Beta software after all :)

I'm using my magic keyboard, attached here (in theory) is an example video of it happening.

Hopefully someone notices something I'm doing that I can fix so I can search like I used-to.

Do you happen to have a modifier key for that set under General > Keyboard > Hardware Keyboard?
or in Accessibility > Keyboards > Full Keyboard Access set to On?

Thanks, Accessibility > Keyboards > Full Keyboard Access by default had Space as "Activate", which caused the problem.
