iPad Safari Tab Overview: Am I being dumb?

The only way I can figure out to get to the tab overview in Safari on iPad is to pinch the website so it zooms out to the overview. On iPhone you swipe up from the tab bar but not on iPad. I use the compact tabs so the button previously there has gone.

Am I being dumb or is there an easier way? Pinching out isn’t very reliable and it often snaps back into view.

sidebar -> tab overview. otherwise the pinch gesture works reliable for me if I do a diagonal pinch (bringing right upper corner and left lower one tgether in the middle).
