iPad says it’s out of space but it’s not

I’m trying to update my daughter’s iPad to iPadOS 13 but it keeps failing. She’s also getting notifications when she tries to install apps that it’s out of space. However in storage she has almost 12GB free.

I plugged into iTunes and it reports the same thing, and also won’t let me update because it says there is no space. Not sure how to proceed here.

You need to do a total system re-install instead of just an "update" - will totally erase memory and start over. Done through iTunes...

Interesting to see this happen. Have you tried just restarting the iPad to see if that makes a difference?

Yea it’s been restarted a few times.

Plug it into iTunes and do a backup. It should clear out “other”. Had this happen to a friends iPhone and we got several gigs back this way. Not sure why it works.
