My wife is in New York and will be there only for the next 6 hours. I asked here to buy an iPad 16GB but according to the store employees it is sold out in all Apple stores, although she could try later to check if new stock is arriving.

Any pointers?

Tell her to go to the nearest Starbucks, wait until she see's someone pull out an ipad(probably won't be too long), and then have her accidently spill her coffee on that person, and in the ensuing chaos, she can easily swipe the ipad and walk away. ;)

I'm Joking of course!

Best buy is the only other store carrying ipad right now.

Yup I would check the BestBuys in the city. Also, where is she going to/from? If anywhere outside the city, the BestBuys are much more likely to have inventory (e.g. the one in Norwalk, CT has plenty last I checked).

She is going to Europe which is an iPad free zone, so it is either New York or nothing.

Does anyone know if it is possible to check on the stock situation at Best Buy online?

Wait, so are you in Europe? and are asking your wife to get you an iPad before leaving the US? so you can be one of the only, but few americans that own iPad's on foreign soil?

:D

Not really. I'm an European software developer and need it to port my apps to iPad.

I called Best Buy (zip 10017), the rep. checked - none of the stores in Manhattan has a 16g or 32g available.

Your best bet might be to wait for a possible shipment at the Apple store.

my mate was in an apple store in NYC yesterday and they only had 64GB. think you're out of luck unless you want to pay for the big boy.

i asked him to get me one - $700 is still cheaper than what they'll cost here for a 32GB

My wife reserved one at the apple store. Hopefully they'll get some in stock before the end of the day.

i suggest using the Best Buy store locator and calling every Best Buy that is within a driving distance you are willing to go. Repeat the same thing with the Apple store. I am sure you will find one eventually.
