Ok, I was in Camden today, (London).

Odd thing was I passed Computer Exchange Store (CEX) a place where people sell used and what I am certain off mostly stolen stuff in.

But to my surprise they were selling an iPad for £595!!! They claim it's the UK version but it's not even out yet so how is THAT possible!??!?!

Look here:
http://www.cex.co.uk/search/index.php?stext=iPad&ispostback=1&mode=buy

I even took some photos of it, just to make sure it was even legal for them to sell something they claim to be the UK version.

Anyway, whoever WANTS it so bad they need it right now... well the above link will tell you how you can get it. ;)

Just thought I'd share.. since Apple hasn't released it yet.

There is no UK version; sounds like they imported from the US.

Good way to know is if there is an FCC logo on the back or not.

Also those prices are ridiculous; you'd have to be desperate to pay that!

Yeah it was behind a glass I couldn't get to it but I'm sure it's the US one.

It looks like they buy the 16gb version for UK£ 445.00 = $673.42. Is that an easy way for someone here to make $100 profit?

I find it shameful that CEX store has so much stolen stuff from the Apple stores. Sometimes I see people coming in with 4-6 me.com packs, or Final Cut Express boxes.

Keyboards, and mouses and pretty much anything that Apple has on the shelves.

Then CEX has the nerves to say they are all used and second hand. Hmmm, when the original price from the Apple store is still on the shrink-wrap, makes it a bit hard to believe.

Same goes for SD cards, you know they can only be opened with a scissor and yet their's are not open, brand new.

All very confusing, that stolen products are sold in that store. When I asked one of the workers he said, "yeah well a lot of stuff here are stolen, especially Blu-Ray films and DVDs as well as games, but we don't have the man power to track down anyone so we take what we get".

I just didn't think they went as far as accepting hardware. A friend of mine bought an iPod Touch via their website, it arrived, he plugged it in and it didn't work. So he did a serial check online if it was stolen... and it was.

:/

Sometimes I don't understand how they can sell things in that store. So when I saw the iPad I thought that's very odd that they claim it's a UK version and second hand when it's not even in the country yet.

Maybe the person who sold it, actually did buy it from the US, as you have mentioned its not in the UK yet, so that is the only way it would have got to the UK. A friend of mine sold his on ebay, because, 1. He wants the 3G model and decided to sell now, before UK prices are announced. and 2. He actually needed the money at the moment, don't judge everyone who goes into CEX either, some of them are okay and good products can be got from them.

My apologies.. I don't want to generalize, it is however a bit hard to get past the stacks of Apple boxes all brand new in the windows. But yeah, not all are bad and that's true.

Sorry but what is this guy on about? How is it stolen? I think you're getting confused.
A store has every right to sell a product be it new or second hand at any price they like. CEX sells a range of items from 2nd user to brand new, its just that they are primarily an exchange store so it's not like you'd go there to buy brand new goods.

It's the same for places like Cash Converters and such, they too have brand new items on sale in store, this isn't 'stealing' as you put it.

How would a reputable company that operates throughout the UK be able to openly sell 'stolen' goods without getting shut down by the police? Use your head dude.

CEX is dodgy no matter how you look at it. I know someone who used to work at one and he said that they were allowed to take games and DVDs home as long as they brought them back. This meant that the discs got more scratched and used more, basically giving the customer an even crappier product

I can't stand the one in Birmingham on Corporation Street. Its well riffy in there. The floor is filthy and there is a god awful smell in there. Plus the people just look dodgy and you know half the stuff has probably been knicked. Their prices aren't that good either I've found.

Naive post of the week.

Sure they sell brand new-2nd hand units...

But what you will find is that these stores, while legit and selling 2nd hand goods, are in fact stocked by many individuals on a daily basis of stolen goods from the high street stores nearby.

Fact.
