ipad sometime weak in wifi, examples

On Denver Intl Airport (20 April and 21 April), my ipad 64G refused to connect to the free wifi. Fortunately, I also carried my MacBook, which immediately picks up the wifi and has perfect contact. Does anyone else have the same experience and is there a clou why?

In the Hotel on Miami beach I searched for Public transport. Website was a mess, and the maps don't show (just a red cross) on my ipad 64G. Fortunately I also carried my MacBook, which connects in a flash, shows the entire website, all pictures and beautifully clear also the public transportation maps. Finding the info with the MacBook, saved me $37 taxi versus $2.25 dollars for bus back to the airport. But it riddles me why this ipad, which was promised to be fabulously good at websites, failed completely.

Does anyone have a clou?

i get the inconsistent of wifi for all of my mac products...ie. mbp, iphone, ipad...sometimes i have to move closer to the router to increase the signal

not sure if that is due to my internet service or the mac router

I've noticed my iPad doesn't like it when nearby devices are using wifi as well.

e.g if my MBP is copying a file over the wifi network, for the duration of the copy, the signal level goes down on the ipad.

My ipod touch doesn't exhibit the same behaviour

Many wifi and youtube problems solved with a hard reboot of the ipad

I had a lot of problems with wifi at Denver Intl Airport and in my hotel in Miami Beach, also youtube hung forever. However, after carrying out a hard reboot of my ipad at least youtube worked fabuously, making me as enthousiastic as I guesses Steve Jobs was during his presenstation of the ipad.

A hardboot is by pressing on/off first and holding the home/hardware key for a couple of seconds.

Hubby and I own the wifi and 3G models... Have had them both in multiple places with wifi at this point with no problems.

Diner, beach, parking lot in shopping center: connecting to optimum wifi that much of long island is being blanketed with.

Mom's: Netgear wnr2000 router.

His Mom's: wrg54s Linksys router.

Home: Apple Time Capsule.

We HAVE noticed that sometimes the meter goes up and down a bit (in both models), however, it doesn't seem to be indicating any REAL loss in signal. We don't lose our connection and we don't seem to notice any detectible slowdown.

I also had the same problem with very inconsistent wifi for mi iPhone and iPad. After reading Apple's suggestion of turning off the auto brightness setting, both have worked perfectly.

One thing about WiFi is that it doesn't pass though people very well. Given that the iPad is held differently than a netbook/notebook, moved around more often, and may not have as good/high an antenna inside as most notebooks, it doesn't surprise me there are problems.

I loaded that page with Safari on my iPad with no problems. The MapQuest link also worked. You might want to reload the S/W on your iPad.

Just a aside note about wifi. I found that my iPad one day started forgetting my home network. I had to tell it to connect every time it went to sleep. It fortunately remembered the WEP key, so I just had to select the SSID

The solution I found online evetually was to not have the brightness on lowest and or auto. Why??

This is a documented issue, and has been talked about several times. For whatever reason, if the brightness is set to the lowest level, the iPad will, under a lot of circumstances (mine included), not connect to the wireless network.

Solution: Move the blue bar a little bit above the lowest setting.
