Does anyone know if the ipad's speaker is decent quality.
Could it be used as a portable music player - ie not just with earphones

To stem off of the original question...
With the Sound Quality be similar to that of the iPod Touch? Or will it be better... louder.. clearer... richer sounds?
You do realize that the iPad isn't out yet so we cannot really ascertain the speaker quality. Why not ask this question once apple starts selling the iPad.

I was slightly surprised that the ipad hasn't two speakers for some stereo effect and greater overall output/coverage. Not a big deal but just odd when audio is a fair part of the device.
Still, no doubt that the speaker on the ipad will be better than the iphone.
You do realize that reporters & such have had hands on experiences, right? Just check the usual trade mags and even youtube. I would think a few comments about audio quality should be floating out there somewhere.
It only has one speaker output, so won't be stereo quality unless it's doing something very clever..
I could have sworn the tech specs (http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/) said the other day "Built-in speakers". But today, it says "Built-in speaker". HMMMM. Of course, I could be crazy
I hope they build subwoofers into it, like they do the MacBook Pros. Still the only computer manufacturer I know to do that.
That's incredible clever! That would give you stereo in both landscape and portrait! It sounds like something Apple would do. I'd be immensely surprised if it turned out to be a mono speaker.I'm almost certain that I read an article by someone who used it at the press conference and said that it has a speaker on the top edge and the bottom edge (with bottom describing where the home button is), so that you had left and right stereo sound when holding in a landscape position (as you would probably do for movie watching).
Asus and alienware were doing that years ago. I'm sure the sell xps had one too when first released.
