Important thing to note about the current iPad Pro is
the 1TB model has 6GB of RAM over 4GB on other models. Which, might just make the difference for guys like OP with huge amounts of content to work with between apps daily. I only found this out last week.
Surely its better and cheaper to pay for extra cloud storage than to pay extra on each device you have. Very rare these day a mobile or internet connection isn't ubiquitous enough to get to your cloud data.
Not doubting the need for large storage but these days that is surely the exception on the norm.
If you've got constant decent 4G/LTE then yeah, or are always near WiFi, certainly. Then, if the networks in your country offer good data packages for a reasonable price on top of your existing iPhone contract. The cloud storage is cheaper, and has other benefits (I have 2TB of iCloud space, and enjoy it. I think it's good value).
Definitely less 'needed', but I know about 20-30GB of Apps alone for someone who is an 'iPad power user' isn't unreasonable. 128GB in my eyes is okay, 256GB good and anything beyond exceptional. I suppose 4K content has a time delay in downloading for people working with that kind of stuff.
Personally, the novelty of having my 90GB Photos Library stored locally for anytime editing / sorting was my silly justification for the 256GB Air 3... though as I speak, it's still downloading the photos lol

OP, what kind of work / things are you storing, broadly speaking, for each category of storage space used? Cool to see an iPad with storage being used similar to most peoples Macs.
