iPad To Supplement MBP?

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to get an iPad to supplement my MBP. I'm A huge Ebook reader and my library has wifi. i usually go there to do school work when im off for the day. i store everything to Google docs so storage wont be an issue, besides that it would be nice to have an iPad to browse the forums with, watch movies and maybe one day netflix? let me know what you think!

I am getting an iPad to supplement my MBP for same reasons. I think it is well worth it. I just want something I can relax with and browse the web mostly. I will be opting for a 3G version though because of my specific situation. I have an iPhone 2G jailbroken (so can't use T-Mobile 3G, only EDGE works) which is very slow for mobile browsing. The iPad will be an easy way for me to get a mobile 3G connection. Not interested in a Mifi (though very cool). I am excited because the iPad delivers so much more than just a great web browser. I am especially interested to start using a big touch screen device, this will be my first. From the WWDC video it is easy to see that Apple did a great job with iWork and mail/calendar/web etc.

That is exactly what I am planning on doing. To be fair though, even maxing out with the 3G 64GB, the cost is something I can easily afford.

Of course, all of this depends on your individual needs. I never do anything more complicated than editing/burning movies with iMovie. However, what my general computing needs lack in intensity they more than make up for in frequency and portability. Up until now, that has meant a 13" MacBook Pro that travels with me on pretty much a daily basis.

Soon, my iPad will take over as my most mobile computing device (ipod touch aside), as I believe it will handle the vast majority of my daily tasks in a smaller, lighter and more compelling form factor. My MacBook Pro will become my mobile desktop for long business trips (3+ weeks) and the rare day when I will need more outside of the house than my iPad.

I think this is what the iPad was made to do, supplement/be a companion to your desktop or laptop. Most people with laptops don't haul them around everywhere. They are portable but not exactly something you want to take with you "everywhere".

The iPad though is something I can see myself taking everywhere, since it is no more trouble than carrying a book with you but a lot more useful. Add to that the ability to do light editing on the go with iWorks and it becomes the perfect supplemental device.

Also, remember you can use any of a number of VNC clients and log in to your laptop remotely from anywhere which is a very nice feature as well.

Exactly this is just how i feel about everything, but can we move our app data over to the iPad? like game saves and whatnot?

I could see myself buying one to supplement my MBP. It certainly couldn't replace my MBP, but it would provide more usability than my iPhone for emails and surfing when I'm travelling and be way more portable than my 15" MBP.
