I went to the Apple store yesterday to trade in my iPad Air 2 since I bought a 12.9 inch 3rd gen pro. The air 2 was a refurbished since the last one had display issues years ago. I already had it restored ready to go went up to a specialist. He checked it out to make sure it worked. But then noticed the light bleed. He checked with the guys over at the genius bar and came back and they all said it was a third party display And that I couldn’t trade it in. I let him know it wasnt a third party display and the light bleed got worse over the years. So I showed him my receipt from the Apple store in Germany. They looked it over even thought it was all in German. His coworker saw the replacement price and how Apple gave it to me as a replacement and did the trade for me. don’t they have equipment that tells them if it’s a 3rd party display or not?

I don’t think anyone should make the determination without at least taking a look inside the device.

The entire way this was handled strikes me as very unprofessional towards you. And light bleed can happen on plenty of displays - the fact that they were attempting to send you away in the first place would have been a complaint with the store manager had that happen to me.

Good thing you got it resolved!

like I said I’m sure they have stuff to check if it’s real or not. The guy that helped me was super nice. And he asked the genius guys to make sure if they could take it. So I don’t blame him. More blame the genius guys.
