Apple iPad: no UK price until launch.

I know this is premature, but I'm really sick of Apple consistently gouging the UK with higher prices of their products than anywhere else in the world.

Right now the basic version of the iPad at $499 converts to £320. So why are most people suggesting a £380 to £460 price tag?

I'll just import from the US or not buy one at all. :)
 
While we are ripped off here in the UK. The Euro zone often gets it worse than us in the UK.
However I don't think we should start complaining about how much we're being ripped off, until we actually know how much we are being ripped off.
This round of complaining seems a little preemptive.

Sweden: 11,995 kr. = $1,615

There you have it :)
 
Plus I forgot to say that once you add tax it's £376. So £380 would be reasonable. I'm expecting £399.

Fixed for you:
US: $1,199
UK: 781,28GBP = $1217
Denmark: 7119,20DKK = $1320
Sweden: 9596,00SEK =$1287

These are prices without any tax.
 
Your forgetting goods coming into the uk arnt just charged vat there is also customs duty, excise duty and import VAT.

If you read this Uk customs and imports it might help you better understand.

You have to consider the economy of scale too. there are what 300m Americans, 60m British 9 million Swedes and a tiny 5m Danes!

I like many others am hoping the iPad slides in at £400. Still more than your average netbook, and actually still more expensive than my G4 mac mini was, but half the price of any other current Mac portable. (remember the Macbook used to retail at around £650?!)
 
American prices are always shown ex VAT because VAT is charged at different rates, depending on where you purchase your goods from. Oregon for example is 0% sales tax whereas somewhere like Orlando charges 10% so Apple cannot price American goods at anything other than ex VAT.

UK on the other hand charges 17.5% for everything, making is easier to price the goods at a single price. This is why it would appear cheaper in America, when in actual fact it's usually the same, if not more expensive once you add import/customs etc.

I'm constantly amazed how many people living in this country don't understand the rules it operates under but will happily whinge about things like companies overcharging here.
 
i will over £300 is a bit of a rip off. why would you want an ipad when most of you (i'm guessing) will own both an iphone/touch and a macbook of some kind. do you actually need an ipad? it doesn't really do much different to an iphone. and i find macbooks fine for portability.
saying this, £200-300 i think it is worth it, and might buy one anyway. they do look cool
