iPad UK Pricing 'Steve Jobs Response'

I struggled to actually understand who was saying what there since it wasn't presented very well. From what I can tell, the message is that even Steve Jobs gets mad at how many people in the UK don't understand tax and our own system.
How come people in the US understand our system when so many in the UK don't?

I'd imagine Steve's pissed because of the three stories in the press that make the pricing sound bad, and to top it off this guy then emails him directly and hasn't got a clue.
Realistically what was this guy expecting??
Did he really think Steve would turn around and say something like "Oh my God, I'm so sorry you feel that way, let me get this sorted as soon as possible. Tell you what we'll pay the VAT for you guys in the UK, and while we're doing that I'll send you a free signed iPad 64Gb Wifi & 3G to say thanks for letting us know."
Got to say, your post was quite hard to follow, what point was you making to Steve? That it costs too much? From what little info I could get from his reply, if indeed it was him, he told you exactly how it is.

If I made the monumentally embarrassing mistake of misunderstanding my own countries VAT, and then have someone in the US have to explain it to me, I wouldn't want others to see... but he's posted this here as a new topic. Why? Sucker for punishment?
OP, please please tell me you're making this up. It's bad enough that people from my own country are so ignorant of how VAT works that they bitch and whine on web boards even when a price is virtually bang on in terms of parity to US price (especially once you include the additional cost of doing business in the UK). The thought that someone would be stupid enough to e-mail Steve Jobs with this piece of utter crap (bad spelling, incredibly bad mathematics, massive hysterical over-reaction) is just flat out embarrassing.

Apple had a press release in 9 countries confirming release date - 28th May and the pricing for all six models.

£422 in USD is $624, yet Apple sell the exact same model in the US store for $499 ($125 difference) so unless there's something major that I'm missing...

we have for every product release and for every product update 5 threads of people complaining about the UK prices. it's getting old. apple charges what people pay. don't buy it if you think it's too expensive. if you think you can get it cheaper in the US due to tax and exchange rate buy it there. simple.
It's very easy - a VAT is designed to be "transparent," so that the purchaser doesn't realize he is paying any tax at all, or at least the exact amount. That is why VATs are evil. The goverment does not want you to understand the "system," because that gives it more power to increase the VAT rate while consumers blame companies rather than the government for price hikes.
OTOH U.S. consumers are quit aware of sales tax because it's tacked on to the price at time of purchase. American's understand that if something has a price sticker of, say $100 they'll need to add in the tax to get a final amount -- and they can separate the cost of the goods from the tax.
On major area in the U.S. where there is a VAT-like tax is gas. Most Americans pay $3 for a gallon of gas and have zero idea how much of that $3 is tax. They just blame the oil companies. The tax isn't even broken out on the receipt as it is with a normal sale of goods.
There's nothing worse than someone who removes their own posts from a forum, especially when they were the start of threads. In the forum I used to moderate, we would remove editing permissions for anyone who does this. If you are ashamed of what you post, don't post it.
