I want an ipad. I've been reading the forums for answer to a lot of my questions and you've all been very helpful. I know which case to get, what apps that will easy work with my main PC programs, etc. Have spent the last 3 days at Best Buy trying the iPad out. Doing the things I'll be doing at home, so to speak and today I hit a major snag.

I watch a lot of live and tape basketball games at the WNBA web site and being able to do so may be a deal breaker. I'm going the the nearest Apple store (about an hour drive) next weelend, but thought I'd also check here. I got this error message "You must have java script enabled to view live streaming video". By the way this was an archived show i was trying to check out. Of course no one in Best Buy was very helpful. I did a search here and in the iPad forums searching for java script led me to discussions about flash, which meant nothing to me.

Question can I enable java script and watch the games?

Videos on their site require flash so they are a no go on iPad.

Thanks, This is a real big minus for me so will give it a lot more thought. I'm so disappointed. But better I find out now than later. Will have to still go to the store to see if I can get atdhe.net, another live sports site which was restricted at Best Buy so I could not try it. For all I know it may be another flash site.

Most streaming internet video is done through Flash. If you're primarily after the iPad to watch streaming video through anything but YouTube, it's almost definitely not going to work unless something has a dedicated app for it in the app store.

Thanks

Just tried to watch LA vs Chicago WNBA on atdhe.net and it is a no-go, they also use flash.

Thanks for trying it out. I was hoping to get an IPad instead of a netbook for traveling, and whatever I buy will be expected to do a lot of different tasks. I love my touch and was looking at the Ipad to get a bigger screen as well as other functions. Looks like I'll definitely upgrade the touch next month and let the IPad vs, netbook thing simmer on the back burner a while longer.

But I want an Ipad and it's unlike me not to get what I want. Buy this lack of flash thing is a real downer. I'm really torn.

Again, Thanks for all your help.

Bear in mind that things might change in the future. I don't suppose Apple and Adobe will come to an agreement... but who knows?

More likely, sites that use Flash-only video will realise that they're excluding a large class of mobile device and offer a non-Flash alternative way to get the video.

I certainly tend towards sites that'll work on iPad - and as those sites become that little bit more popular, other sites will realise which side their bread is buttered on.

Why not visit your sites' forums and/or email their tech support to ask if anything is in the pipelines? The more who complain, the more likely action is. This is one of those things you can influence yourself.
