I'm sure I will be crucified for providing this info without any "proof", but I have received AT&T internal information stating that the $29.99 unlimited data plan for the ipad will be extended until further notice. I suppose this is how AT&T will accommodate all of the people who haven't yet received their previously ordered 3G ipads.

So no need to rush and purchase the unlimited plan today to be grandfathered. I'm sure an official announcement will be coming sometime today (probably during or after the WWDC keynote).

I think it makes good political sense for AT&Ts relationship with Apple and the public. I actually believe you!

The price has not changed on Apple's web site.

I think they came to their senses.

unlimited $29.99 with an asterisk indicating for a limited time only. (kind of interesting play on words!)

Checking my account shows the new pricing plus the old pricing, I hope AT&T will announce how long this extension will last. I hate to be manipulated by any company.
One of the main reasons for buying the 3G iPad was the flexibility of AT&T data plans.
Let's hope some other carriers start employing micro sims.

Not that many options in the US for 3G on the same frequency as AT&T since T-Mobile is using 1700/2100 AWS... Their may be a few regional providers that can do this but that is far and few between. So quite technically most people have no choice.

Perhaps they will extend the unlimited plan a little further and then cut everyone off (even those set to auto-renew) at some point in the near future. I just don't trust them anymore.

Who knows what will happen.

I hope what the OP heard was correct. No idea on the states, but $25 for 2GB or $30 for unlimited. My guess is many use less than 1GB. Therefore, the unlimited plan may bring in more revenue for AT&T. Again, pure speculation on my part.

Yeah, I'm sure their next excuse will be due to unprecedented demand for last-minute orders for iPad 3G unlimited, we need to cut off everyone now!

Went ahead and got the unlim plan at 11pm last night, figured what the hell, plus I'll be downgrading 2 iphones to the $15 plans anyhow so it's a wash for me. I'd definitely much rather just have the unlim plan when I need it, which might be 3 or 4 times a year, but oh well. I stream a lot of slingbox and really thing Ill use the ABC player and things like that a lot, so I think I'll get my use out of it.

The information I received is indeed accurate as I've received another confirmation. Again, this is "until further notice" so who knows when the unlimited plan will actually be eliminated as an option altogether. The AT&T internal communication is as follows:

The availability of the $29.99 Unlimited Data for 30 Days with Auto-Renew has been extended until further notice. Customers activating new service or changing their Cellular Data Plan from their iPad will now have three Data Plan options to choose from:
• $14.99 250 MB for 30 Days with Auto-Renew
• $25.00 2 GB for 30 Days with Auto-Renew
• $29.99 Unlimited Data for 30 Days with Auto-Renew

What this has actually done is made everyone feel the $30/month plan is AWESOME! I remember all the whining when it was first announced...

Will there be a warning???

Indeed. Any clue if they are going to give us a warning? I was planning on switching down until the rediculous news earlier this week. I was going to do it as a test as much also that my first month has proven that I don't need a ton of data...rig now...but I want the option to go unlimited for a month at a time and stay unlimited if it meant not being able to drop down.

So, if we down grade right now...will we get a warning to get back on the unlimited before they kill the plan???

29 buck plan as a "I don't have to worry about usage..." is a good plan/idea. I added a 3G to the lineup for those times when I either forget my Verizon Mifi or can't get on WiFi. Have yet to use any 3G on my 3G but just knowing that I have it just in case was worth the extra $. If they keep up the unlimited plan great - if they keep all plans not needing a contract even better.

Try it and let us know.

I activated my unlimited last night. My options which will take effect after my 30 day term are:250MB, 2GB or cancel. If I tap cancel, I assume the option to restart an unlimited plan will be gone. AT&T sucks

so does this mean I can still purchase a 3G iPad today and will still be able to have $30 unlimited data plan? or does this still apply to only purchases before June 6th still?

I actually called AT&T today to verify what was true and what wasn't. They confirmed that the iPad unlimited data plan is still available but they won't say for how long.

They did verify that any iphones purchased with a new line of service starting today will *not* be eligible for an unlimited data plan. Its a shame because I was going to get my daughter an iphone for her graduation gift and now I'm questioning whether I want to have to worry about her going over the new 2gb limit.

I'm guessing they just removed it this morning. I only see 2 options right now (250 and 2gb). Thankfully I was grandfathered into Unlimited data last week.

I'm not sure if NEW iPad accounts only see the 2 options or still see 3.

Any thoughts?

Unlimited Plan still available as of 6/9/2010!!!

After much whining about dealing with the Sprint Overdrive, my husband just bought the iPad 3G and has decided to sell his wifi version.

We just got back from the Apple store and I can confirm that when we went to sign up for a data plan, the $29.99 unlimited plan *is still available*. This is after the rep from the Apple store said that it was not. He was actually surprised to see that the activation went through on the $29.99 unlimited plan. So, we're breathing a huge sigh of relief since seeing that the unlimited plan is no longer being advertised on the website, despite what the AT&T rep told me on the phone just a couple of days ago.

This was not an iPad that we ordered online - we placed a reservation with our local Apple store and picked it up today.

My 250 gig plan expires at the end of the month but I did upgrade to the unlimited which will take effect when the first plan expires. My question is this: having signed up for the unlimited, what happens if I go over the 250 plan before the end of the month? Does the unlimited just take over then or do I have to sign up again but for a partial month?
