Hi
I wanted to buy an iPad in the US, mainly because it's about 40% cheaper in the US.
I'm going to the US October 2010.
So i wondered do you think there'll be an iPad harddrive upgrade (or just an any sort of upgrade) before October 2010?

Doubt it. I would be surprised if all models of iPad were even available in most countries by that time.

They haven't even released the iPad yet and you're asking about an update to the iPad?

I highly doubt that any updates to the iPad line will occur in 2010. Just look at the iPod touch, and iPhone as a basis.

Looks like they are releasing a wide variety of models at launch (16,32,64 and 3G) so there isn't much room for an update. The next logical update is 128GB and other hardware changes, which likely won't be seen until the first refresh, which would appear to be 1 year from launch like the iphones and ipods.

What i was wondering...
As we all know Apple should update the HDD in the iPhone and iPod Touch this summer. Back in December Toshiba launched the 64GB chip (which propperly is used in the iPad) and who knows if Toshiba launches a 128Gb by Sept 2010 at the let's rock?
So my point is, if Apple launches a 128GB (or 256GB) iPod Touch, wouldn't that make the iPad, with it's maximum capacity of 64GB, completely silly and outdated?

So couldn't you imagine that they would just upgrade the ipad's maximum HDD capacity to 128GB at the same time as the iPod's (9th sept 2010)?

HDD? The iPhone and iPod Touch use solid state memory. Apple's specs for the iPad specify a solid state memory as well.
A few people have managed to upgrade older iPods with bigger hard disks, but this is not a job for a novice.

I'm waiting to get one. I waited to get my iPod touch, and was quite pleased when I was the only one at school who had a volume button. So with that said, Apple products can only get better with time, and I expect the iPad to be the same

probably no...but since the original iphone was updated within 6 months (not sure) and the prices were lowered, it can happen to the ipad too...
apple may decide to lower the prices...or as the 64gb chips are already in the market, they may introduce the 128gb version...

no one can say anything right now...

I really wan't an iPad with 128GB...
So my question is...
- Do you think that Apple will upgrade the hard drive capacity of the iPad to 128GB before October 2010? should i wait for October 2010?

Again, Apple will propperly upgrade the capacity of the iPod Touch to 128GB (if not 256GB). Wouldn't that make the iPad's maximum capacity of 64GB outdated, and therefor also upgrade the capacity of the iPad to 128GB?

If you want that sized capacity, you need to expect to wait until 2011. If it happens sooner feel pleasantly surprised instead of disappointed.

Possible, but way too hard to predict. It really depends on whether Apple can make the same margins on a 128GB version as it does w/ the current 64GB version. One day Apple will kill the 16GB model and shift the others downward to make room for a 128GB at the top. Whether October is too soon is unclear. I don't think its a given we will see a 128GB Touch this year either. More likely to see a higher rez screen and other improvements.

1) Apples and oranges - don't compare iPad to iPod Touch
2) So what if they upgrade the memory on the iPod Touch? How does that affect the function/update schedule of the iPad? Doubtful that on a new release like the iPad we will see any significant update soon.
3) If you need a device now...buy it. I'll guarantee that one year later something faster/with more memory/with more bells and whistles will come out. If you wait for a future-proof device you will never buy.

How would you expect anyone to know the answer to this question?

Only time will tell. They have not even been released yet and Apple is NOT going to announce any upgrades for a long time.:apple:
