iPad v iPhone 3GS sound question

I have ordered a 32GB iPad and have a question about the music playback over headphones, is it as loud as the 3GS or is the 3GS louder or is it the same ? wondering as deciding whether to use iPad as an iPod or 3GS

I would say that over headphones, it's about the same.

Obviously using the speaker is much louder than with the iPhone, though.

I don't know if the iPad has a better audio chip/amp/whatever than the iPhone, but it seems to me like the iPad powers my Sony MDR-V6 headphones and makes them sound better than my 3GS. Maybe someone else can chip in and give us the exact tech specs on the audio outputs on both devices.
