Just let me say that the ipad is amazing. I've had the ipad 1, two ipad 2s, and currently have an ipad3 with verizon. Little over a month ago i bought a 16gb nexus 7 to get a bit of the android experience but mostly because all the reviews were raves, i was beginning to feel the ipad was becoming too luggy to use anywhere but at home, and i thought the 7" was worth a try, particularly because the price of $249 was a no brainer. Well i can say for myself that the n7 is truly incredible. The screen is equal to my eyes to the ipads retina. It is solid and SO light. I have about 150 apps on my ipad and theres an excelkent version of each in the android play store. Without any scientifuc measurement the nexus truly seems faster than the ipad. For me all its missing is a rear camera because i use my ipad 3 a lot to take pix. I use both equally but more and more i'm favoring the n7. Now having experience with the 7" form factor i am anxiously awaiting to see the ipad mini. My hunch is the small form factor will replace the ioad size tablets down the road except for those who use them for special purposes.

The Nexus 7 is a fine tablet at a low price but I would say the screen isn't the device's finest feature & it doesn't compare to retina to my eyes.
I've had iPad and iPad2... and just a few weeks ago I bought the Nexus7... so far it's great! Here's what I like:
1. great price.. half the price means I can upgrade twice as often
2. light weight and easy to use 7 inch form factor.. I find it easier to read books... iPads are a bit too heavy and a bit cumbersome to read with
3. Android is kind of interesting.. you can do alot of custom things, rip music and videos straight from Youtube.. lots of things you could not do with iPad
I was a bit worried b/c I had so much content that I've purchased from iTunes.. but now I'm starting to become a converter...

That's why if the iPad mini doesn't have a retina it will be a pity. It will be a clear advantage over the competition and people will be willing to pay the "apple premium".
If it's 1024x768, making it worse than the Nexus 7 screen (resolution and dpi wise) it'd better be VERY cheap.
That has been my experience with the iPad too. Unless you are resting it on your lap, it gets quite heavy and your arm tires of holding it after a while.
I bought a 16gb Nexus 7 2 weeks ago. After using it I just sold my 64gb iPad LTE. If a smaller Ipad is introduced i will buy it, but I have no need for a 10 inch tablet. Until the Nexus 7 was released I didn't care for any smaller tablets available. I can tell the difference in the screens but not a deal breaker. Same here, I have not really been too pleased with what Apple has been doing over the last couple of years. I've gotten kind of tired of iOS and the iPhone and so am going to switch to a Nexus 7 and a Nexus phone soon. When it comes to OS X I have not really been impressed with what Apple has done with Lion and Mountain Lion but I still love the Mac to death and can't stand either Windows or Linux.
Spoken like someone who has never used a 7 inch tablet for any amount of significant time. I've spent a lot of time on both sizes. 7 inch really is much better when done right like the nexus. Most seven inch tablets before it were mediocre. I love the back of the nexus 7 as well. It feels really good in the hand.
I never understood this. Never do I support the entire weight of the iPad myself. It's always partially resting on something or propped up using the smart cover. Weight shouldn't be an issue at all.
Its close enough that most people wouldn't notice. They just don't use over saturated wallpaper and icons by default like apple. The pixel density is also pretty close. The iPad 2 looks pretty bad in comparison.
Glad the consensus on the nexus 7 is positive. Other than a retina display and a rear camera what more does everyone think the ipad mini will offer to make it standout. Of course it just being a smaller ipad is a HUGE plus. They better price it right though, under $350 with 16 gb would be a sweet spot.
I have the Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Nexus. I would have bought an iPad but it is too big and heavy for me to handle when I don't want to be on my MacBook Pro. If there was a 7 in. iPad I would have bought it. The Nexus 7 got there first and it is perfect for me. I also really like Android and the Google ecosystem - but will always stay with Mac computers.
I don't use it much for taking notes, but if I did I would use Google Drive, formerly Google Docs, and ColorNote which works just like the Apple Notes app.
I love my Nexus 7, makes my iPad feel like a whale. If they make the 7.85" iPad Mini though, I'll probably use it and sell the other two.
You Can't compare the Google Nexus 7 to the iPad, they are 2 different devices for 2 different purposes.
The Google Nexus 7 was mainly Designed to be an Entertainment Device and it actually works very well for this. I watch Movies, Read, Pay Games, Listen to Music and Browser the Internet on Mind.
The iPad are better suited for Productivity. When I Need to do lot of works, I normally reach for my ASUS transformer Tablet.

I'm fairly certain the ipad is also a multimedia device versus a productivity device. I gave my dad the new ipad when I got my nexus because the nexus fits its role of being an ultraportable device very well. I cannot put my ipad in my back pocket and take it out to read a book on the train. Whenever I see somebody reading a book on an iPad, i wonder "couldn't they have bought a kindle instead?". And the iPad is large to carry and hold for long periods of time.
I call bs on this. The nexus has 16gb of space versus your 64 gb and it lacks wireless cell connectivity. You probably wouldnt buy a 64gb ipad with LTE in the first place if you werent going to use those functions.
You can argue one or the other way. Nexus 7" is certainly more portable. But even for videos I prefer the bigger screen of the iPad. Typing (at least for me) will be better on the iPad.
To me the two can't be compare as they aim for totally different markets.
My ipad 2 is the 3g model and i use the cell connectivy rarely, most of the time the ipad is in the house or always.

I don't like to read on iPad, either. In this case, I have to buy myself a kindle. But when I got a Nexus 7, I don't need to switch at all~
Since iPad mini is supposed to be launch next month, we will have to wait and see which is better. It's better with Retina!!
I'm not saying I dislike the 7" form factor, I'm just saying I like the idea of having choices. 9.7" is the perfect size tablet form factor for me.
I prefer the 7" as I find it more portable and more comfortable to hold. I'm going to wait and see if the iPad mini does come out, and if it does and disappoints, then the nexus 7 it will be.
