Is the new Apple
iPad a phone (iPhone XL) or just a giant iPod Touch, when compared to the Amazon Kindle and a rock? According to this chart, the Kindle and rock seem to be in the lead -- though we'd take the iPad tablet over either due to its web browsing and gaming capabilities.

The chart is selective in its effort to highlight what the author must construe to be negative about the iPad and positive about the Kindle and the rock.

A fuller chart would have included the ability to run apps, surf the internet, run productivity software, use GPS, the benefits of a color LCD, and various other features that distinguish the iPad from a rock, I mean a Kindle.

Rocks have useful apps. They do come in colors. And let's face it - a rock is far more durable. You could even customize the rock. iSlate. iObsidian. iQuartz....

What about paper and scissors? Does iPad beat them?

A new "Big Bang Theory" idea. Rock, paper, scissors, iPad, Kindle. Better than Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock?

1. Battery life. 10 hours is based on video usage. How long will the Kindle last while playing videos? Oh wait....

2. Instant Start. Instant Start? My Kindle takes over a minute to start and list my books from a cold boot. Sure it is instant when it is already booted up. But how is this different from an iPhone (or iPad) that is asleep then woken up?

3. Price. $250 is the price of the Kindle with a smaller screen. If one wants the same experiences, and better PDF viewing, you are looking at the DX which is only a few bucks cheaper than a base iPad.

Pretty worthless comparison. I could lost 6 things the Kindle doesn't have but the iPad does, but how much further would that get us?

Actually -Jobs in an interview said 10 hours for book reading. He also said "who reads for 10 hours"

Which isn't the point. If I'm traveling for a week or weekend - it's nice to not HAVE to bring another cord/charger if I don't have to.

And when was the last time you got battery specs the same as reported?

And if people bitch about the short battery life of their iPhones and needing to plug in and/or get an external battery - why isn't this any less acceptable. I'll admit - 10 hours is GREAT battery life. It really is given everything the device can do. But you can't compare the Kindle and iPad. Apples and Oranges. But if you are comparing battery life - Kindle wins. Repeating - comparing BATTERY LIFE - kindle wins. period.

Link? I watched the keynote, where they said you could watch video on a flight from San Fran to Tokyo.

So you can't compare the devices, but when you compare battery life, Kindle wins? You should have stuck with, you can't compare them because you really cannot. The Kindle uses E-Ink which is great on battery but slow as hell. I am personally sick of my Kindle. It is really worthless. Sure it is like a book, but I rarely use it since it is a pain to use.
