Does anyone know what resolution the wallpapers for ipad should have?

If you want a wallpaper to fit perfectly, then I think it's 1024 x 768 (or 768 x 1024 for portrait).

That's not a must, though. I assume you can have wallpapers with any resolution.

you sure? Most of the wallpaper sites have the 1024x1024 resolution on their wallpapers

Check out this thread.

iPad wallpaper resolution is ideally 1024*1024 (minimum). This allows the image to be displayed in either orientation:

I don't know how the software works so you can align the wallpaper like you can with the iPhone, since on the iPad you can rotate the lock screen. Does somebody with an iPad want to let us know how this works?

Apparently its 1024 x 1024 as it doesn't auto scale. I have attached a template, if you set it around 20 percent opacity in Photoshop you can work out the scaling etc.

It seems that the iPad crops 128 pixels per side on either the top and the bottom or the left and right. So you have to make sure that wallpaper looks good at 1024x768 and 768x1024.

So the main content should be focused in the 768x768 area
