Hi there, consider buying iPad - I am not a heavy user, actally do not need computer (got original macbook 12 - i use it like twice a month for shopping:D). Do have iphone 11, iPad would be complementary device, for some heavy reading from time to time and maybe some streamoing when out of home (i prefer watching movie on my TV).

BUT, been thinking about xbox remote play, that may be few times a week an interesting possibility. So, I cant decide between iPad pro 11 (2020) vs iPad pro 13 (2020) or iPad pro 11 (2021)...

Is xbox remote play any good on iPads? read quite varios opinions about it (as it is available only in browser - thank you greedy apple - ive read that performance issues are quite serious..)

That remote play and maybe occasional movies streaming might be much better on 13 inch one, but all the rest I feel 11 will be better.. 13inch seems to be heavy/clunky, I am afraid I would not enjoy using it for reading (while sitting on bed/sofa)... Oh, btw, I do not plan to use it "on the go" - just at home/hotel etc...

any comments/ideas?

thanks...

imo the 12.9" is the kind of thing that unless you know you need it, you probably don't. It's too big and heavy to comfortably hold for long periods for reading etc and doesn't quite have the portability. As a large touchscreen for design work, or if you basically need a compromise device between a Mac and an iPad, it's good, but for most people 11" is a good size for most things.

I haven't use Xbox remote play but the PS4 equivalent is patchy at best in my experience. Other people seem to have different experiences.

tbh given your use cases you'd probably be alright with the Air, although once you add a reasonable amount of storage to that you're not far away in cost from the entry-level 11" Pro.

What's the price difference between the 2020 and 2021 iPad Pro 11"? If you can get the 2020 at a decent price I'd go for that.

With iPads I’d focus on we screen you want to have. That sort of dictates the model.
Buy the cheapest and biggest screen you’re comfortable with.

I wouldn’t consider anything except the pros in your case. Buy the screen you want/need. Everything else in the pro line is already overpowered (not a bad thing)

You will have to deal with latency with XBOX Remote Play, which will put you at a disadvantage if you’re playing against others online, but should be ok otherwise. The experience will also be less smooth than gaming directly on the device.

12.9" is heavier and can be uncomfortable to hold for long time. Go for 2021 Pro unless you find the 2020 models with good discount.

Xbox Remote Play is possible using the Xbox app available on the App store. xCloud game streaming(without a console) is possible only through browser

I use the Xbox app to stream games from my console to my iPad Pro 2020(11")

I believe the 2021 iPad Pro uses WiFi 6. I’m not sure what version. It’s possible that this could provide benefits to Xbox cloud streaming on your WiFi network.

The 11" pro is a very hard read depending on your age.

If you have Xbox console, use the app for remote play. xCloud gaming through browser can be used if you do not have console. But this requires Xbox game pass ultimate subscription.

Enjoy your new iPad

Regarding the size question, I have both sizes of iPad pro and if I only had one it would most definitely be the 11".

The 12" is much more a laptop replacement which it does very well.

I am not a gamer so I can not speak to that but I suspect the 2021 will be a better choice for the reasons already mentioned.

Yes I do, actually 2 MBP's. I use a 16" as my daily driver and an older(2013) 15" that bangs around with me when I am traveling. The 12.9" IPP pretty much stays setup next to the 16" on my desk, the 11" goes in the bag with the old laptop or alone if I am heading out for coffee etc. The 11" has cellular so it pretty much always goes out with me.

I guess it depends on budget constraints. If you plan to keep it long term then the 8gb of Ram and the M1 will last you longer. Cellular also depends how often you plan to be out and about using it. I have the cellular model since I travel a lot for work and many places with terrible wifi.

I also prefer the security of not having to use public wifi when out. It's also great to have it when the power goes off at home.

I have an 12.9 iPad and a MacBook Air too much! likely will go down to the 11" iPad Pro, then I think a perfect combo!
