IPad Wi-Fi Problems

I'm curious how many people are experiencing wi-fi problems with their iPad.

I've had to enter my 10 digit hex encryption code so many times now I have it memorized. An analyst (Munster) said he thought it only affected 2 percent of the iPads. My hunch is that it is much higher than that.
 
The funny thing is that I have to regulary reconnect my MacBook Pro and my iPhone to my 802.11n router, but I've had no problems with my iPad yet, even after using it for at least ten hours.
 
I just had my first WIFI issue on the iPad. Steps to reproduce:

1.) Went into settings and turned on bluetooth
2.) Turned on Apple bt kb, WIFI instantly disappeared. Instantly.

It was very noticeable because in the settings app, you can see the WIFI setting still sitting in the sidebar changed to "disconnected" or whatever it says. I waited a minute or two, and it didn't reconnect. I had to manually open the WIFI setting and click on my network. It didn't forget the password, it connected right away. Did I discover a new issue, or is this what happens to others? I vaguely remember iPhone users saying something similar when using bluetooth, but I never had the problem because I never have the bluetooth turned on. No need for it really until now. Love being able to pair my keyboard! It just sucks when I bring my bag home from class and my keyboard is being pushed in the bag and it makes my mac freak out. It also sucks to have to disable bluetooth on the iPad to get the keyboard to stop waking the thing while its in the bag. Oh well.
 
Yes I have. If it continues I'm returning it. You do know there have already been many threads on this.....
 
I'm having problems with my school's wi-fi being total crap, so I may have to return it
 
I was really getting angry with mine. Last night I turned WEP off on my router and it's been behaving perfect.

Perfect but now I have no security on my router in a New York Apartment block... tbh I'm OK with that as it's sure to be a sw fix that will be resolved with an update.
 
I was having issues at first. I was getting 1 bar when i was right in front of the Wifi router. So all i did was move my router from the cramped space and moved it to the side where it is not covered and now i have full bars all the time.
 
For those with problems: Are you using an 802.11N router and do you have another device that does connect and work fine with an 802.11N wireless card/chip?

Mine is working fine.

I haven't tried turning off WEP. From my experience with the first iPhone it had a similar problem. I had to turn off WEP to get any kind of consistent wi-fi operation with the iPhone then. I'm not willing to turn off WEP but I bet it would solve the problem.

Another thing I have seen is that the browser operation works very similar to what the first iPhone was when it was first released. In particular the operation of websites that use Google maps.

I'm wondering if the iPad software development effort started shortly after the iPhone was released and they used that build of software and haven't got around to applying many of the fixes to the browser and wi-fi software.
 
No problems here.

I've connected to my own network (WPA2/Linksys WRT300), my brother's network (WEP/Linksys WRT54G) and tethered to my cell phone (Nexus One). No hiccups to report.
 
I turned off WEP and so far the iPad hasn't lost wifi, or asked for password ( I guess because WEP is off), but now I have to keep connecting my iPhone to my wifi signal, whereas before it worked fine. WTH, why can't everything work? Why won't Apple step up?
 
for all of you that are having wifi issues, have you tried updating your routers to the latest firmware? I'm curious to what routers you have.

I have the D-Link DGL 4500 with no issues.

I recently subscribed to Verizon FIOS and I would imagine that the router is commonly used across their network. All other wi-fi devices in the house (iPod touches, iPhones, Wii, Sony Playstation 3, vintage HTC cellphone work fine.
I would have hoped that Apple would of at least tested their device on what is argueably one of the largest networks (Verizon FIOS) in the country.

You're correct but it doesn't hurt to try & it might help fix your issue. OTT, how's Verizon FIOS? I'm currently on Comcast Cable in VA but will be getting FIOS once I move back to FL.
 
Can anyone tell me why after turning of WEP that fixed my iPad staying connected to wifi, but now everytime I pick up my iPhone I have to go through very step to make it work on the wifi. Now it won't stay connected. Why must only one or the other be reliable?
 
I go from my home connection, to work, to a couple different coffee shops and bars without aaaaaaany issues. Once I join each, it has no issues the next time im there, connects automatically and doesn't drop at all... I don't get it.

Same experience here. But, you know you can set your router to only accept connections from known devices... It's usually in the advanced security features on your router. I think it's every bit of a good approach as wep. Neither is perfect, but I'm satisfied.

That said I do think apple should fix this. People expect things to just "work", blaming the router is no way to make customers happy. Didn't have this problem with my iPod touch.... iPad should work the same way.
