I am about to purchase an iPad to use for school. I have a Time Capsule 1TB and a wireless printer hooked into the capsule. My question is can I print wirelessly instead of having to transfer the files to my MacBook.
Also can I plug a portable harddrive into my Time Capsule and be able to pull up the videos / files onto the iPad. I know they probably wont save onto the iPad but the ability to view and watch would be nice. My goal is to not use my MacBook anymore and just the iPad.

No to the hard drive, you can print some stuff wirelessly using apps from the app store if you are able to install a helper app on the host computer connected to the printer. This is really a feature that needs to be built into the os though as installing helper apps on another computer is often not possible such as in a work or school environment or anytime you are away from the computer with the helper app on it and when you are home it's much easier just to use the desktop to do the printing so it really defeats the purpose in the end.

Hopefully they fix this soon.

What you can try is downloading Orb from orb.com and is free. This will allow you to share you movies, music, tv show, and almost any file. Then download the orb app. You should then be able to stream movies from anywhere as long as you macbook is running at home. I do this with my iPhone and it works great.

Air Video + GoodReader + Air Sharing HD = everything you need

Air video will stream video from your laptop\desktop. It can transcode on the fly so you can stream any format. $2.99

GoodReader is a must have app. You can read many files with it. You can also browse the Internet and download files. $.99

AirSharing HD is kind of like GoodReader, except for you can print to a shared printer and mount your iPad as an external hard drive to move files to it. $9.99
