iPad with 90% battery just refused to turn on until plugged in

I had just tried to wake my iPad up from sleep, but the screen stayed blank and nothing happened. Same when I held the power button, and same when I held the power and home buttons together.

Panicking, I plugged it in to the charger and it luckily booted up fine, with 90% battery!

What just happened here? It obviously wasen't an issue of the battery being low. Seems like it decided to shut down and lock up randomly

I had this happen once before as well. I just did the home button / standby button reset and it came back. Never happened again since then. Are you on the current firmware?

Yup, latest firmware, non-jailbroken. Weird.
