My iPad wont charge when connected to my Mac. I get a message at the top saying NOT CHARGING. In fact when I connect the iPad I receive this error message. See attached screenshots. How do I fix this? Thanks..

Can the Mac's USB ports supply enough current to charge the iPad?

I know my Windows PCs (circa 2008-2012) can't charge iPads either.

It won't charge while on because the iPad wants too much power. Use the iPad 12w charging brick or leave screen off and your MBP will charge it slowly -- though your 2012 MBP probably doesn't have the power necessary to do so very fast. That's why it says not charging.
