Hi,

I'm using an iPad Mini 1st gen running iOS 9.3.5 and I can connect to my router fine. However, I have a mains power wifi extender which is what I would be using the iPad on most of the time—if it would connect.

Every time I correctly typed the password in, I would nonetheless get the "incorrect password" window.

So I forgot the network and tried again. "Incorrect password."

So I restarted the iPad. "Incorrect password."

So I renamed the network and changed its password, and tried again with these new details. "Incorrect password."

So I reset the iPad. "Incorrect password."

So I did a full factory reset and set it up as a new iPad. "Incorrect password."

Easy answer: the extender (BT HomeSpot) is at fault. Except, just to make things more complicated, my roommate's iPad Mini 1st gen, also running 9.3.5, connects with no problem and always has. Every single other device in the house—iPhones, Macs—also connect with no problems whatsoever.

So seeing that there seems to be no problem with the wifi extender, and my iPad is for all intents and purposes an out-of-box model with no problems connecting to other networks—what the hell do I do now!?

Help. Please. It's driving me crazy.

Hm, tricky one. Can you exchange the extender device to test a second one? Best success!

Are you using a Smart Keyboard on your iPad?
Maybe that is (incorrectly) capitalizing your first password character, and you don't realize it, as passwords are not displayed?

I continue to get the incorrct password on my iPad, even though other devices connect fine. I did a work around by typing my password into “Notes” and copying and pasting the password into the wifi password space. I do not know why this works. I can see the characters are correct when i type them in, but it only connects with the pasted in version.. Odd!

Maybe your keyboard is set for a different language, or you are using an unusual keyboard, or auto-spell on the keyboard "corrects" the spelling of your password, etc.

This worked for me. Thanks

I’ve got to wonder whether the original poster, verntheworm, and Rohanrego have a keyboard extension installed via the App Store. Such an extension might be generating different codes for some letters, which Notes converts to standard key codes upon paste in / copy out. Keyboard extensions arrived with iOS 8, so it is certainly possible. I think this is what DeltaMac was implying.

Its been 2 years I've been trying to to connect my iPad 3rd Gen (GSM Model) to my wifi router. And have done every single thing but it always give me "incorrect password"

- Tried factory resetting ipad.
- Tried resetting network settings.
- tried changing firmwarr from 9.3.5 to 9.3.6 and then back to 9.3.5. But the problem remained persistant.

Right now i am using ios 9.3.5 and this issue is with the software. Unfortunately for my device 9.3.6 is the last update it got with this wifi problem.
For constant 3 months i tried downgrqding my ipad to any lower firmware than ios9 like ios 8 or ios 6 but failed.

Now after 2 years I'm tired of this **** but my ipad couldnt connect with wifi.
All the other devices like 2 laptops, 1 PC, 2 iPhones (6s+ & XSMax) both running ios 13
Are facing no issue its just the iPad.

Also tried copy pasting password from notes didn't helped.

My question is did any one was able to resolve this legit probpem?

Forgot to mention that
My iPad running ios 9.3.5 is jailbroken.

But jailbreaking has nothing to do with wifi connectivity.

I've tried connecting to wifi without jailbreaking too but same result.

Is the WiFi antenna in the iPad broken? Maybe your WiFi standard is too new for the iPad?

I never solved this, FYI. Not really a problem anymore since I'm just on a new iPad these days, but I've still got the iPad mini and it still works, albeit slowly. But still, it will connect to some routers, and not to others. Just the "incorrect password" thing.

Nope wifi anteena is ok. I said there isn't any hardare problem. I have a BT Extender in my home for my room because signals of main router are weak. So iPad connects instantly with extender but not with the main router.

iPad also does not connects with my android phone's hotspot and it neither connects with iPhone's hotspot.

iPad only connects with the BT Extender.

Yess exactly the same issue its a software bug in ios 9.3.5 and 9.3.6

The only method to resolve is to downgrade the iPad. Which for me is impossible coz i dont have SHSH Blobs of older IOS. 🤷‍♂️

So, i hoped that there will be a solution of this. But i guess there isn't.

I think Apple injects these bugs in older ios so that the user is forced somehow to buy a new device.

Life is much easier with an android 🤷‍♂️.

I got this same problem with older iPad Mini 2. It was working fine before and stopped from some moment. Password sharing works, so I can push password from iPhone running nearby. But still same result "incorrect answer".
I fixed it by going to router configurator and changing security from WPA2-PSK(AES) to WPA/WPA2-PSK(TKIP/AES). So weakening to WPA helped.
