My parents iPad Mini 2 has stopped switching on, it's been on charge for days and when pressing the power button it's showing the low battery indicator rather than powering up.

I decided to factory reset so I put it into recovery mode and reset from my Mac, the iPad reset to factory and then booted into the OS just fine, battery reading is at 100%... I then switched it off and tried to power it up again and the same problem persists, it's flashing the low battery indicator again rather than powering up.

I'm guessing it's a hardware issue but thought I'd ask before throwing it in the bin. Has anyone experienced this before?

The battery definitely has charge but will only power on if restored from recovery mode.

I remember seeing a thread where someone experienced a similar problem on their iPad Pro.

I've reset it again and looked more closely at the battery, it quickly dropped to 60% and then died again... I think it's probably on its way out.
