iPad won't turn off when charging?

I can plug my iPhone into the wall charger, then turn it off ( in hopes it charges faster, plus so emails don't 'ding' while I'm sleeping)

I can't do the same with my iPad. Every time I try to turn the iPad off while it's charging, it starts to shut down, but then immediately turns back on. Is this normal?

I remember reading somewhere you have to plug it in, THEN turn it off..
Or turn it off, then plug it in.. haha.. it was one of the two

Should be plug in and THEN turn off. Works for me. Also to the OP... why not just silence your iPhone at night?

Works correctly, or turns back on after you shut it off?

If I have it on when applying power, then try to turn it off, it will restart itself. Not sure about the opposite case (yet).

Turn it off, or put it into sleep mode? I don't think turning an iPad off will make it charge appreciably faster.

I think someone is missing the point, if you can normally plug in then shut down your iPad, then now you can’t, I think the original msg. wants to know why. I’m having the same issue now. The only big change is I’m running iPadOS 15. Since I first bought an iPad till now, I was able to plug in, then shut down to charge. I doesn’t matter, shut down then plug in or plug in then shut down, it doesn’t work like it always has in the past. I’ve ran every ios 15 beta release and had no issues till now.

In no way am I trying to embarrass at all. I’m still trying to think what iOS / iPhoneOS version those devices were on in the first place. Wasn’t 2010 the year the iPad came out? It‘s simply crazy how things have changed technologically in 10 plus years.

Or, let it go to sleep. Like the iPhone, the iPad needs rest. If I'm charging and get to 100% and let it sleep, the next time I wake it up, even after I get a good night's sleep, it's still at 100%. The only reason you'd want it to charge faster is if you're taking it out where there is nowhere to plug in a charger. The solution to that is to plan ahead better.

Yup, the iPad first launched in 2010. I got my first one in 2013. I haven’t bought a new one in 3 years however. I really like the 12.9” models for the applications I use. I love Apple products and at this point would never go back to another platform. It is amazing to see the evolution in their products over the years. And by the way, you didn’t embarrass me, when you run at 80 mph like I do and try to multitask, you do dopey things like that all the time. Got to get ready for work right now. Peace ??

Well, the USB-C models, gettting a fast charger works, too.

Mind, I think full charging time for iPads has always been around 4-6 hours (even with 10-12W charger). Hence one can just plug in the iPad before before bed and wake up to a fully charged device. I get weird Siri overnight battery drain issues on mine so I actually prefer the overnight charging and unplug when I wake up route.

Plus DND or Focus mode would prevent the iPad from waking you up with countless notifications.
