Had a weird thing happen with my 2020 iPad Pro last night. I plugged it in to charge and it just would not do it. I tried checking the port for anything, but it looked fine. I rebooted a few times but still couldn't charge.

I have a Magic keyboard and so I tried charging via the port on that and it charged fine. I ended up going to bed figuring I would have to call AppleCare in the morning. But come this morning, I tried the port on the iPad again and it's working fine.

Was this a weird fluke or is something else going on?

Same thing happened to me after I used it as Sidecar to my MBP. I did a soft reset and everything came back to normal.

New here, searching for answers.
Ipad Pro 2018, still with Apple Care as its only a year old.
Stopped charging this afternoon, used Apple charger, cable and then a back up Anker cable. Nothing. Its down to 2% battery as I type this on my old macbook, and the nearest repair center is a Best Buy 40 miles away. Scheduled a Best Buy appointment for tomorrow morning but after reading other posts on these forums I have decided to call Apple directly. Perhaps they choose to have me ship it back to them or replace it.

in any case, this appears to be a frequent complaint from what I've found online this evening. Hardware problem? Software? Ugh!

I have been having charging issues like that for like a year on my iPad Air 2. Might be optimized battery charging, not sure. I don’t think my battery has everything been below 20% charged. I do not like to get the battery low. I have only gotten it to the 20%‘s a few times.

My ipad does not charge for hours when plugged in, but usually holds its charge at that level, or sometimes drops a few percent, but then will start charging later. It is frustrating though because I feel like I cannot unplug it and use if I donot know if it is going to charge, and do not want to run the battery down.

I don’t know if there is something wrong with my iPad, if it is part of the hidden battery optimization feature, or if it is something Apple is doing in hopes that I will get a new iPad.
