Came across today my old IPad2 bought new in the Year 2011 and which has been sitting on a shelf untouched for a couple of years. Low-and-behold I pressed the start button in which it fired-up and to my surprise it still has 47% battery life.
I accessed the Settings mode which indicates it is still on IOS 7.1.2 and recommends that I update it to IOS 9.3.5. Now, the question I have is what to do with it as I use my iPad Mini2 exclusively and also thinking of buying a iPad Mini4 from Best Buy?? Thinking I should update the IOS and use it to play movies off Amazon using Airplay to watch movies on my TV.

So, any of you Forum Members still use an IPAD2 and what for??

I have an iPad 2. Permanently sits in a dock connected to speakers for playing music. Basically a giant iPod. It's too slow (and moreso too RAM deficient) for much else.

Mine too. After I upgraded it from iOS7 to iOS9, it has been practically unuseable.

Open an app, crash. Open it again, Crash. Open it again, functions, but extremely slow. Open another app. Crash. Open it again, reboot (!). Open it again, it works. Open first app, crash.

And so on, and so forth. I can't believe iOS9 was ever released for the iPad 2. And yes, this is on a completely reset iPad before I get those replies.

So to OP, it is working fine, just keep it on iOS7.

If you have a lick of sense, keep it on 7.1.2

I have mine on the same version as well and things work well.

Upgrade past that and repent!

Ios6 works even better, but FaceTime won't work.

Yes, fresh install of 9.3.5. I don't recommend using iOS 9 on it. I upgraded because of app compatibility, but the apps that require the newer iOS also assume you have more RAM, like the devices that were released with the newer iOS. So they crash frequently.

That's the sad truth about Apple's older devices. Even the app makers end up leaving them behind, even for apps that were around since the device was new and worked great at the time.
 
Guys, thank you for your excellent replies and I will keep it on the present IOS 7.1.2. I just completed a charge and it is now 100%. I will be using it to play some movies and as a Kindle Reader.

Oh, right now I am thinking of getting either the IPad Mini4 or the new iPad(2017) and it is been around two(2) years that I have held this 9.7" Ipad2 in-hand. I really prefer the Form Factor of the 7.9" iPad Mini4 over the larger iPad,so, strongly leaning towards buying it at Best Buy which has it on-sale for $299 through tomorrow.

Can't speak for the mini 4 but the iPad 2017 was a great buy for me and works fantastic!

I would definitely consider the much more capable A9 powered 2017 iPad. It will give you the most bang for your buck.
 
I decided to pass on the iPad Mini4 and will purchase a new A9 powered 2017 iPad in the near future and I am using my Ipad2 mainly to hear Internet Radio, Podcasts, Audible Books and view Youtube. Again, thanx to all that replied to this thread.

Sure when compared to the new pro models - 10.5" and 12.9".

I saw them in Best Buy yesterday and do not consider the 10.5" to be that much bigger in screen size.
