Hello guys, as I don‘t see any reason to upgrade my iPad Pro, I wanted to know how well it handles (iPadOS 16) the new update?

I‘m still on iPadOS 15 and the device runs very smooth.
Have you guys noticed any performance / battery issues?
Considering how strong the A12X still is, I don‘t think performance would be an issue?
I‘m aware that is is missing out some features however...

Thanks :)

I’m on a 2018 11” iPad Pro, not noticing any issues with iPadOS 16.4.

I’d say don‘t upgrade. You won‘t take advantage of most of the new features anyways, and iPadOS 16 will be more demanding compared to iPadOS 15 for A12X so…
Even from a security standpoint, we have security update nowadays, even less incentive to just break things that just works.

I have 2 iPad pro 12.9 2018, one on 15.7.2 and the other on 16.4
The performance is identical. Stand-by time is similar (it was worse on 16.3.1).
RAM usage may be slightly more (I made a test and the one on 16 started to reload a bit earlier, but not a big difference).
Stage manager is a nice option but I use it very rarely.
I'll decide whether to update the one on 15 after I know what 17 brings.
I am going to sell the other iPad this summer, as the one on 15 has more storage (512 vs 256) and they are redundant, especially as I also have a M1 12.9...

Feels about the same to me. No real reason to not update.

The sooner or later, I‘d have to upgrade anyway...
I will be using this iPad until the ‚end‘.
There is no significant benefit for me, if I‘d upgrade to an M2 iPad Pro today. Yea, It‘s powerful as hell but in terms of performance the 2018 model is just fine for what I‘m doing with it.
I assume that iPadOS 17 will be worse especially for the older devices.

Yeah, the A12X is regarded as one of the best X chips (granted, it's the last one Apple ever made, but like... it's a bigger bump than most X chips are over the base ones) so it would work fine for you. Just use it asis until your apps start to not support the device, and then upgrade.

The question is always the same: what are you using it for? If you use it for content consumption, you don’t need any updates. My 9.7-inch iPad Pro on iOS 12 runs everything I need it to run for content consumption. I have the apps that I need, and updating would only give me worse battery life. Maybe there are some apps you need though.

I think this is what you should ask: do you need the app compatibility? If you do, are you willing to trade battery life and performance for it? If you don’t need the compatibility (this is my case), then don’t update. If you need it, ask yourself that question. If you are willing to trade it, go ahead. Otherwise, I wouldn’t.
