Hi all

A really odd one. Ive been drawn into troubleshooting and trying to fix this on my mum's iPad and im completely stumped.

Basically, her 10th Gen iPad was fine.... she FaceTimes her sister every day for about an hour and has done so for a long time.

Immediately since upgrading to iPadOS 18 she has been unable to maintain a FaceTime connection for more than a few minutes. Sometimes 5, sometimes 10 but it always disconnects with an error.

I was hoping that 18.0.1 magically fixed it but it hasnt.

Ive ruled out everything I can. She is able to have long connections using her iPhone on iOS18 thats still fine but its just the iPad that wont play ball anymore.

I tried a few things including resetting the network settings but its had no effect.

Has anyone seen this on their 10th gen iPad since iPadOS18? Any ideas what might be causing it?

All advice welcome. Thanks.

just do full reset.
Might be also hardware defect but lets hope for software glitch.

im tempted but don't want to go through the faff (especially as its my mums iPad and she will be anxious doing something drastic even though I know its fine)...

Its definitely down to iPadOS18 but surprised that others don't seem to be experiencing issues even if its only a handful of people.

Tempted to wait until 18.1 and see if that makes a difference.

If anyone is interested, or experiencing the same thing...

After a lot of faffing around AND the ultimate 'fix' i.e. wipe and start again with a fresh iOS install.... (which didn't work)

Waited for 18.1 and still no improvement.

However, doing more searching now it appears the issue is more widespread and people are taking about it.

If anyone else is being affected, it is definitely a bug introduced in iPadOS 18 and is apparently down to the centre stage camera affecting mainly 10th gen iPads. This tracks exactly with my mum's experience and that FaceTime works fine on the iPhone just not the iPad.

Anyway apparently Apple are aware and will be fixing it. In the meantime a quick workaround is to switch off the centre stage camera when on FaceTime (by using control centre and selecting FaceTime controls).
This does work, and it stops the disconnection error.

Hopefully they will fix it soon but in the meantime its no big deal keeping the centre stage feature turned off.
