Hallou guys, you who installed 18.2 beta are there some improvements to stage manager (external display support) ? on official 18.1 there are lot of bugs , for example moving 2 safari windows from ipad to external monitor is causing a general crash, sometimes keyboard is not working etc.

My opinion is that apple dont want to improve ext. display support in general, very few improvements on ipad os 18.

No, stage manager on external monitor with opened safari still crash system

It will continue until they rewrite architecture, because all this based on some hacky solution, not something fundamental

I'm hoping the lack of recent updates to it means they are actually rewriting the whole thing to be better. It's a mess right now.

Good feedback, haven't updated my iPad Pro M1 that I mainly use yet. Wasn't aware that stage manager was acting like this. But is it worse in iPadOS 18 than 17? The "hacky solution" comment would apply to 17 as well wouldn't it?

Not saying it flawless but its works alright for me.

Well, I really happy for you, because these crashes brake all mood when you in the middle of the work.

Yes, from ground up stage manager is the same. They patch it somehow, but again and again it crashes 3 years later like day one.

Funny thing, that I upgraded from 17.7 to the 18 beta and it was more stable.

And yes I feel 18 has less bags in terms of stage manager.

For those who witnesses these crashes, I use safari only on iPad screen when connected to monitor. It makes system crash less.

I cross my fingers on that, these improvements on screen share that added all systems wide and some screen sharing API in safari experimental features on iPasOS, that they may show something more mature than what we have now.

But last years made me believe not worth of waiting from apple to see iPad as new PC.

All these plans and features goes to vision pro

My wild guess is that we will se stage manager included in iPhones as well so that we can just dock the iPhone into some random dock and continue to work such as on the iPad.
Samsung has had if for years so it would be strange Apple wouldn't offer something similar.
