Hi guys.
This might be a silly question - I came back to iOS now after a long time with an iPad Pro just in time for iPadOS.
I was excited to be able to download movie files in a file system and play them - however - having been away from iOS for a very long time - the thought never occurred to me that all video player apps (VLC etc) have been designed to not make use of a file system. As in you can’t just have a movie file in your folder and do “open with vlc” - or even browse for a file from within the app. They all are designed for working around the lack of file system.
Maybe I’m being totally stupid and am missing something.
I presume those types of apps will be releasing updates to take advantage of the new file system - probably after the official release.

My question is - Are there any which already have updated - or are there any apps which can open video files directly from the file system?

Thanks

Yes. VLC will actually let you import files. Just did it with the AppStore version of VLC and the latest public beta on my iphone.

In VLC, you have to go to "Cloud Services" (tap on the traffic cone in the top left corner) and then you can browse your iCloud Drive, local files and any other attached file storage services. I'm assuming that external storage devices will also show up there as well, but I have no way to test this.

Ah thank you very much!
Working perfectly. Would have never thought to go through those menus. Like I said I just moved over to this strange world!
Still a very odd round about way, hopefully as soon as the official os releases all these apps will just have a normal way of opening files.

No worries. I think the "Cloud Services" thing throws people off since under recent versions of iOS it doesn't necessarily have to be a cloud storage provider.

Just open your files app, drag your movies to the vlc folder and enjoy.
