Regarding the SD Card Reader that is sold seperately in the Camera-Kit..

Do you think that the SD Card Reader will allow you access to all your files, not just Videos and Pictures? Would you be able to say, view Document Files, PDF files, or whatever else?

There is an Add-on for the iPhone/iPod touch

And that allows you complete access to the SD Card itself.. so Im just curious if Apple followed suit.

More than likely we won't know for sure until someone gets their hands on it - but Im just way to curious now to way - so what do you think?

- also, I just think if you were ABLE To access all of your files on the SD Card, it would help with STORAGE issues for some people. Say, keep all your LARGE video files on a SD Card, and use it with the adapter whenever. Sure, this might be a lil bit of a hassle for SOME people, but for others, this wouldn't make no bit of a difference.

No, it doesn't - but I mean, ok say... you have a Library of Video files on your SD card, that won't ALL fit on your iPad.. say, you copy one or two to the device, and then there you go.. your set... without using up all your internal memory.

Knowing Apple, I'm going to guess no. It's dependent on software, and thats what the third party SD card reader.

If Apple did allow you to do this, I'm sure they wouldn't call it the Camera Connection Kit.

Direct from their website:
"The Camera Connection Kit gives you two ways to import photos and videos from a digital camera. The Camera Connector lets you import your photos and videos to iPad using the camera’s USB cable. Or you can use the SD Card Reader to import photos and videos directly from the camera’s SD card."

Now, that doesn't mean you/people wouldn't be able to write their own program for accessing the adapter.

But I doubt Apple will give us that functionality natively.

I'm wondering how the camera connection kit would work with my Nikon D5000. This would be awesome to bring along on photoshoots. I wonder if it will support RAW format though. I really want to be able to preview my shots before I leave the shooting site.

Dope App. I can transfer almost any file to the phone even pdf and read it with the built in reader in the app. wav. mp3, pdf and on

I can even access files off my ftp server and copy them to the iphone.

I hope the ipad comes ready for good old fashioned file sharing out the box.
I hope somebody makes a Compact Flash adapter for it also.

It will just be a matter of time before someone writes makes an app to add this functionality. It won't be native, though.

I already bought a backpack for my gear that also has a notebook slot, all I am waiting for is for Pre-Orders to start. I know sooner or later someone will write an app that will add some of this functionality. I wanted the iPad with a camera but then I thought of how many times I've used my iMac camera, 1 time!

Who knows, maybe someday we'll see an external HDD or SSD with 30 pin connector on one side and USB on the other.

That way you can easily copy files to if from your desktop/laptop via USB then use those files on the iPad after you transfer them via the 30 pin connector.

Just change your camera settings. Surely the inferior Nikon line of cameras (haha just kidding...or am I? Canon FTW) has the ability to shoot RAW+JPEG (small), which is all you would need on the 1024x768 screen unless you wanted to zoom in. Which brings up another point: will the kit import full size photos? I know syncing the iPhone in iTunes shrinks the sizes down, which really sucks for me when I'm trying to zoom in to show someone detail in one of my photographs.

No way.

I am sure Apple wouldn't even allow people to access other things besides PDF, Music, Video, etc etc.
It's all because of the jailbreak.
If the jailbreak requires non-Apple flash drive or additional software, then there will be serious problem with Apple again.
Still, some companies will be able to make different one.

That would be pretty stellar for sure! But Id also like the SD option as to carry around larger storage, mostly movies, music.. lol Im a dork like that. Id like it.. but Im sure others could use it in other ways, but I totally see how wifi would be simpler, to transfer files between the iPad and ur computer.

Lack of built in SD port is my Biggest gripe against the iPad. It is close to a show stopper for me.

This kit really doesn't address it as it is sold as a "transfer" kit.

I am thinking about when I might want to pop cards from different cameras, some not my own and just show pictures FROM the card without transfer.

The adapter is clunky/ugly and likely only does transfers not just let you view the pictures freely in the photo viewing app unless you transfer them first.
