I’m on the month to month AppleCare+ plan. My 11 Pro’s battery is at 79% and I’m having issues with the lightning charging port. If the cable is angled a little it won’t charge. This can happen if I’m holding it while charging and move around or even using EarPods.

I’d prefer to drive the 2 hours to an Apple Store and have them service it. This was going to be ok with the battery but can they do the charging port same day?

If not, do I go through the Support App?

They may just offer you a replacement device especially if your main complaint was the charging port not working properly.

I bet there’s debris lodged in the port. It’s very rare for the port to go out in only 2 years.
Replacing the lightning port requires major open heart surgery - the entire phone has to be disassembled.
Doubtful they’ll ask you to wait or you’d want to wait for the repair. It’s a big job.

I tried cleaning it out a couple of weeks ago with one of those disposable flossers. I didn’t get much out and it didn’t fix anything.

I tried a toothpick this time, got out a lot of fibers, and that seemed to help a lot. It feels solid going in but still gives some issue if I wiggle it enough, just not as bad. I hope one of the pins aren’t corroded inside.

Alright, update...

The port looks pretty clean and I'm guessing all of my cables are going bad at once. They all give me issues, some more than others. Weird how it all happened all of a sudden.

How thorough is Apple in checking the port? If they say it's good, is it good? They're going to swap the battery so I don't mind waiting to have them check the port.

I was really hoping to get through to the next iPhone. I was hoping it has USB-C and I was going to swap everything over.

What the genius at the Apple Store will probably do is use a known good Lightning cable to check the port and also run a hardware diagnostic on your phone.
