I've recently received an iPhone 11 Pro Max for testing in my corporate environment (an iPhone 11 is also ordered but currently they're out of stock). During my initial testing I've been primarily charging the phone using my Samsung Qi dual charger - so that I could charge the iPhone next to my Galaxy S10... convenience rules, and I'm pleased that it is finally possible to wirelessly charge certain Apple devices these days.

However, when I went to charge the 11 Pro Max using the same lightning cable I use for my test iPhone XR - it did not work - nothing happened. So I reached for another lightning cable - nothing again. The third cable I grabbed worked fine, despite appearing to be identical to my other two cables.

To try another scenario I took my iPhone XR, the 11 Pro Max, and the three cables to my 2019 Subaru with CarPlay. All three lightning cables worked perfectly with the iPhone XR, but again, only one of them worked with the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

My question is - despite the fact that the cables appear to be identical, what is likely to be causing the 11 Pro Max to not 'like' two of those cables? Is there a special version or revision of 'lightning' that the 11 Pro Max supports, and if so, how can you identify if it is the correct one? In a corporate environment, it's a deal-breaker if it's not possible to tell compatible vs incompatible cables apart somehow. The last thing I want is a CEO yelling down the phone that her phone is broken when it's just a matter of one Apple cable being slightly different from another Apple cable!

I have same question. I have a powerbank and it works with iPhone X and XS but not with my Pro Max.

My test iPhone 11 arrived, and it also shares the same cable issues as the 11 Pro Max. It looks like Apple has done something to the USB compatibility on these new models.

I haven’t had any issues with 3rd party cables. Currently using a 2m Cygnett USB-C to Lightning cable with no issues.

I need one of those... Mine is frayed from bending due to short length. I've seen that they sell 0.5m versions, that's way too short for most uses.
