Made this while I was quarantining for a few days. Had two things in mind - make it heavy enough so that I can easily pull the phone off the magsafe charger without pulling the mount or cable. Second requirement was for faceID to work at my desk without having to pick up the phone, which is why it's angled.
To be honest, I didn't really need to embed the magnets in the stand - I could have just used double stick tape. But the idea that the tape would eventually degrade over time and not really be a long-term solution got to me. So in went the magnets and then I realized that I need to double stick a metal plate to the back of the magsafe charger. Eye-roll. Going to reiterate the design with a way to mechanically fasten the magsafe charger to the stand, i.e. no glue or tape. Oh, and I filled it with pennies to make it heavy. Next time, I'll order a block of steel instead - I could have made it a lot smaller if I had used solid steel. The magsafe charger magnets are surprisingly strong when pulling off the phone. The 12 pro max hasn't ever fallen off in my car.
