Last year I asked if 2019 was an inflection point as far as weight goes, and it looks like the answer is yes.
This year’s iPhone 12 is 15% lighter than the iPhone 11. The iPhone 12 mini is a whopping 30% lighter than the 11. 🤩
And the iPhone 12 mini is just 19% heavier than the iPhone SE 2016. For comparison, the iPhone 6 was 14% heavier than the first SE and the 11 was 72% heavier than the first SE.
To get this year’s iPhone in this overall body/weight package is almost unbelievable!!
In the last post we got to talking about density as well so I added it here. I also corrected a couple errors. (This time I used Numbers, last time I did rough calcs in the Spotlight bar so must have made a mistake somewhere!)
it’s great to see both software and hardware move far enough ahead to make this possible without making big sacrifices on battery life. Hope the rest of you enjoy seeing this pulled together like this.
* YOY refers to release year except in the case of the SE 2020 which is compared to the iPhone 8 rather than the 11 for obvious reasons. 😅
