Even if I disable auto-brightness, True Tone and Night Shift, I feel like the screen on my iPhone 12 mini is dimer than my partner's XR at max brightness. Is this just the difference between LCD and OLED that's throwing me off? Or is my phone defective?

Technically they have the same brightness (625 nits) but if the 12 looks dimmer to you compared to the XR, then it is.

iPhone OLED screens are not consistent. Some look great and some definitely don’t.
Two iPhones of the same model can have very different looking screens (color, color shift, brightness, color banding on edges, different color shifting at low brightness levels).
Getting a great iPhone OLED screen is like buying a lottery ticket. Maybe you’ll be lucky.

Because the iPhone 12 mini display is in reality lower than XR in terms of brightness.

Reviews show the XR display typically reaches 700 nits. The 12 and 12 mini typically measure in the low 600s.

Compare it to another Mini if possible (duh) and see if the Reduce White Point setting is enabled.
