Hello all! I am an avid Apple fan and purchased the new IPhone 12 Pro max. I did the pre-order from Verizon and received it on Friday November, 13th. Like a lot of people. I was at my upgrade point from my 11 pro max.
Here’s where the fun begins.... errrrr

I received the phone and had the SIM issue and got that resolved by taking a trip to Verizon. No biggie....

My flashlight would turn off intermittently and the icon would fade out. I couldn’t turn the flash light back on until I restarted the phone. I never got an overheating message or anything.

I do have the 512GB Granite with a dark blue MagSafe silicone case from apple. Everything is apple branded... just an FYI.

Ok! Back to my story... I made an appointment with apple, as they tried to diagnose over the phone and found nothing. My appointment was this evening at 540 PM mountain time.
They just did a full replacement and told me to restore as a new phone.
I did. I updated from 14.1 that the phone came with to 14.2.1.

I am now receiving the following...
C739FA51-C115-462D-8D63-D8B3C6E556CC.png

So I ripped the silicone case off as maybe it’s now retaining heat. The phone starts downloading automatically. But NOW the phone is HOT! It’s too hot for my hand so I slapped the silicone case back on. This is MAYBE within 2 hours of me having a brand new replacement phone.

Ive never had issues like this. Have you???

is this worth ANOTHER call to Apple??

Ive already sent my 11 Pro Max to Verizon and they’ve received it. So it’s not just as simple as going back to my old phone and flat out returning this one.... 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

please can you offer me some advice on what I should do???? Thank you so much!
Zach

Are you charging while the phone is restoring your apps (setup). The phone will get hot the first hour or so. I had to replace a 12PM that may have burned out it cell modem because of getting too hot. My 2nd 12 PM (as did the 1st) overheated using a car charging dock with a qi 3.0 car charger (used 2 different qi chargers). I had to go back to a 5v car charger to use the dock (for now). My heat issues are tied to fast charging.

After syncing is finished, the phone should cool off.

I had it on the charger, yes. It seems fine now. I had issues through the evening still, off the charger also.

should it be OK? Or would you think I UNKNOWINGLY toasted something? 😢😢😢

The phone gets HOT during the initial setup and syncing. It eventually cools down after everything updates. However, that is what AppleCare is for!

My 12PM was very warm when doing the initial setup and 200gb file transfer from my 11PM. No more after that.
