My iPhone 12 Pro Max recently has this weird issue that it only charges when awake, e.g. I plug it in and the charging process only starts once I tap the screen. Then it continues to charge without any problems, even after it goes back to sleep. I have read that this was a common issue back in the "Xs era", but it seems to affect some of the current units too.
I am unsure on how I should proceed here. From my point of view, this is a software issue, but I am not sure whether it will ever get fixed. I could probably get a replacement device from Apple, as I am a) under warranty and b) do have Apple Care, but since I got the phone via the contract from my carrier, I expect Apple and the carrier going back and forth about who is responsible plus I don't really want to exchange my retail unit for one of the "exchange units" (Silly, I know).
So, while thinking about it, I am looking for advice here. What whould be the best course of action? Hope for a software update, for example iOS 15, to fix this? Report it to Apple right away and hope that they consider themselves responsible to get me a replacement?
Thanks for your input!
Edit: Other sources mentioning this can be found here, but there are no solutions there, unfortunately.
