So got my new iPhone 12 Pro Max yesterday and woke this morning to a boiling hot phone that i could touch. (luckily no damage to anything, phone or me!)

Been on the chat/phone to Apple all morning who eventually agreed to send me an advanced replacement but not for 2-3 weeks like the shipping times if you tried to buy phone today! Not good!

Anyone else had this overheating issue?

I imagine you are used to wirelessly charging and this was not your first experience without? Phones do tend to get rather warm in the process sometimes.

Or were you using a MagSafe charger?

I have noticed my 12 Pro Max get hot but not unusually so. What is more unusual is that the screen's maximum brightness has been limited and at one point the torch disabled. This is normal behaviour from high heat but I'm surprised it's getting so hot.

I am used to wireless charing and it was overly hot! Definitely something to be concerned about!

I have noticed a few times my iPhone 12 pro (when using the MagSafe charger) will get very very hot compared to a slower wireless charger, it also would charge very very slow while over heated. So far when I’ve noticed it I have disconnected and power cycled the phone, it seems to charge just fine after.

Qi Charger which has been fine with 11 Pro Max
My MagSafe got pretty hot on initial setup last night but I’ll test again today. I just put it on the Qi charger overnight for sleep and it was completely cool/fine. I like slow charging overnight anyway.

I might keep the MagSafe for the quick charging during the day or intermittently (which it was not doing on setup yesterday maybe due to the high heat, screen on, and cranking restores and installs).

I have the same issue. Just got the 12 Pro Max two days ago. I keep my phone in a dash mount when driving. I’ve noticed that the phone overheats within a minute and the screen automatically dims to try and reduce the heat. However, when I go to turn the brightness up, it says it’s already at the max brightness, but I know it’s not since the screen is so dim it’s barely visible. This didn’t happen with the 11 pro Max

My X used to do that. Hope this isn't the new normal.

It gets hot when charging depending on how low the charge is...Every phone I have had got hot charging.

I saw the screen dimming just using CarPlay and GPS while plugged in on my 7Plus. I haven’t tried this with my Max Pro Extreme Super Duper Ultra, but charging and GPS tend to make a lot of heat In general, especially if your also surfing or streaming on the side.

Try to get more data to see if there’s a pattern. Mine didn’t always do this.
