iPhone 12 Pro Max screen flickering?!

Sounds like you're sensitive to PWM.. It's normal, most can't see it..

All OLED screens flicker. Most people don’t see it. Some people can’t tolerate it.

It’s never done this before, there definitely something wrong

If it’s more than the usual high frequency flickering all OLED screens make - then yes, something seems amiss.
It’s not like there’s some secret hidden setting to fix it. If the flickering is obvious to anyone- phone needs to be repaired.
