Just curious...has anyone been able to make heads or tales of the iPhone 12 Pro Max Camera array...specifically the 5X optical zoom telephoto lens?

I know the OPTICAL is for 5X, but is it fixed at 5X? I am wondering if it will be possible to zoom "out" to something less than 5x...say 2X through 5X?

Any ideas?

Wouldn’t zooming out make it switch to another lens?
That's what I'm asking. For example right now with iPhone 11 Pro Max...it has a normal lens and a 2x telephoto lens. However, you can adjust from 1x -2x by using the adjusting curve....I don't know exactly how that works, but I assume if you use this slider (adjusting curve) adjustment from 1x to 2x...it's using the optical lens and not digital...maybe...maybe not. I don't know.

Instead of using the adjustment curve, if you pinch in/out on the 11, it automatically changes lenses. My assumption is the 12 would be the same.

Yes, but I'm talking about the focal lengths BETWEEN the normal lens and the 5x (1x-5x).

OK...so really this lens array is not really a 5X optical. They have the ultra-wide, the wide (normal lens) and the telephoto. But they are saying the zoom is from the ultra-wide focal length to the 5X optical. However the lenses are 0.5, 1.0 and 2.5 (used to be 2.0). So really not that much of an optical zoom enhancement.
