There has been a lot of chatter about iPhone 12 pro vs non pro version.
I myself any trying to decide if the extra cost is worth it based on the extra features, of which there aren’t many.
One thing I’ve noticed is that people assume that the 12 pro will have 6 GB RAM over 4 in the non pro model. What is this based on? The iPhones 11 and 11 pro had the same ram.
Also people have insinuated that the 12 Pro will somehow have a superior OLED screen compared to the non pro. Again what is making people assume this?

A 128gb 12 Pro will only be $100-$150 more than the 128gb 12 so yes it’s worth the additional cost IMHO if the rumors about differences are correct. I have a feeling they’ll be a few more differences revealed at the event on the 13th that didn’t leak. Just have to be patient till then

I’ve been comparing all the summarised leaks with the specs that are likely and I can’t really see anything the Pro has that I wouldn’t be able do on the iPhone 12. I have never paid a grand for a phone and I’m absolutely dead against paying the extra for a few minor feature bumps. I think the standard 12 is rumoured to be slightly more expensive than it should be this year and really Apple should have targeted the XR/11 range as both those devices came out surprisingly on price.

Even if the 12 is £150-200 cheaper than the Pro, i’ll opt for the standard 12 on principle.

Credible analysts and leakers.

UBS, Barclays, and L0vetodream commented on 6GB RAM.

Ross Young on the 10-bit display.

I was dead set on getting the regular iPhone 12. But looking at rumored prices got me thinking this as well. I know I will get getting 128 GB of storage. It might be worth getting the Pro model.

I’m using 50GB of my storage but i’ll still get the 64GB 12 as I’m not comfortable with being forced to stretch further on cost. I have a 200GB iCloud subscription so I don’t see the issue having some stuff stored elsewhere. It would be nice to have the 128GB and I was quite excited when the leaks suggested all models were getting it. In true Apple fashion though they have to add a bit of disappointment to the launches but they won’t be squeezing more money out of me.

This makes a lot of sense as well. If you can‘t use it, then it’s not a good deal no matter what the price.

I need to have a good clear out of apps and photos I don’t use too. I’ve got nearly 7GB of messages which I really should sort out.

The 128GB 12 must be nearly the same price as the 12Pro so I’m confused as to why they didn’t just make it 128GB across the range.

Easy answer: it negatively impacts the average selling price (ASP) for the iPhone, which Apple wants to keep as high as possible.

While you have made it clear that 64GB is enough for you, it is not enough for a lot of people and Apple is capitalizing on that. I even read about people wanting a 1TB option. By keeping it at 64GB, Apple knows that a good % of users will fork an extra $50 - $150 for the next tier of storage space, which will result in a higher selling price and an improved profit margin on the sales of these units, as they are charging $50 - $150 for something that costs them about $5-$20 extra. If they make it 128GB accross the board, they loose the extra revenue and lowers the ASP. For the Pro's I'm sure the agreed to make it 128GB as they are running out of ideas to convince users that it is worth the premium.

Probably same reason why the 5.4" mini will start at $699 instead of the cheaper price that was rumored: they don't want to make it cheaper as they know that a good portion of the people interested in the 5.4" would have been customers buying a higher priced model had the 5.4" mini version not been created.

That’s a good answer. To be honest I tend to think like a consumer before thinking about a company I have no financial internet in and their profit strategy. If they scrapped the 64GB tier, I’m sure you’d still get those like myself who won’t pay £1k for a device and would opt for the 12 anyway. I said 64GB is just enough for me at the moment, but only because I have an iCloud subscription. If I didn’t have that, then I’d be screwed. The rumoured £799 price for the 64GB is stretching to what I’m happy paying for a phone so I won’t be going any higher, even if 128GB was £849. I’d rather delete stuff.

It’s weird that we used to be totally excited by an iPhone launch, whereas these days it’s about 80% excitement and 20% ‘what’s the catch’ or where is the disappointment factor?

This is what everyone signed up for: Capitalism. You can’t hold corporations to a high moral standard when their reason to exist is profit. Yes they have to play PR as not to ruffle the feathers too much of their customer base. But I always see people complain about a business’s practices. If any one of us were to start a company we wouldn’t utilize a strategy on ways to make less profit and advantage the customer. That’s counterproductive from a business perspective. And not to get into the weeds or too political for this thread but most in this country hire one of two clowns every 4 years to serve these profit interests instead of the common person.

The screen technology/specs will be different based on rumors. Samsung will make the panels for the Pro models and BOA I think is making the OLED panels for the 12 mini and 12 regular. I haven’t seen anything mentioned about pixel density but I expect the mini and regular to “only” be 1080p while the Pro models will more than likely be 4K and whatever Apple called the screens last year, XDR or something like that.

This has been somewhat consistently mentioned that BOE is making some of the panels. From what I’ve read Apple is not accepting any of their displays this round. They were checkEd and did not meet apples standards. So people are in luck as the 2020 displays are being mostly made by Samsung and maybe some LG. You can correct me if I’m wrong

I’m not up on the latest leaks so I have no idea. It I can see the displays being different resolutions. But 1080p is more that sufficient on a smartphone or tablet for me. Heck it’s good enough for a tv for me. Saves on battery life also.

thats the whole reason there is still 64 GB on the iPhone 12. they count on the upselling value. „With 100 bucks more I can get XY!“
