I dropped my phone and my screen is destroyed beyond use. I can control the phone through Siri, but the screen is unusable, which is a problem when it comes to typing in my passcode. I've been able to sporadically sign in, and I even got as far as activating FaceID so I don't have to type in my passcode. FaceID keeps getting disabled for one reason or another though, and I have to retype my passcode.

My screen is getting worse where accurately punching in my code has become virtually impossible. Yesterday I got locked out and failed enough times to get locked out for three hours. I left it alone overnight and left it at home when I went to work today. I just got home, failed again, and now my lockout is 8 hours.

I am switching phone companies at the end of this month and upgrading with it. My only concern at this point is the two years of photos on my iPhone and not backed up anywhere else. My iCloud is full with older photos from previous phones, and I had not done a physical backup on this phone in quite some time.

I tried connecting it to my Mac and controlling it through iTunes. The phone asks to trust the computer, and then I run into the same problem of the near impossibility of typing in my passcode correctly. This is really annoying, because I know for a fact I've connected to this computer before. Just not in awhile I guess.

What are my options here? I thought if I were able to unlock the phone just one more time, I would sign up for the 200gb iCloud and just upload all my pictures to it. I'm locked out for the rest of the night though, and I fear if I fail one more time I will put it on permanent lockout and everything will be lost forever. Is there any third party software that can recover my data for me and workaround the lockout and the computer not being trusted? Or any way to control the phone other than the screen? I went so far as to try and connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the phone. I was actually able to navigate the menu, but the pairing failed for some reason.

This has been a big lesson in staying up-to-date on backups. For now, any advice on dealing with this presenting issue is greatly appreciated.

You can upgrade your iCloud plan from your Mac. I’m not sure what settings you have for back up, but if they are default, it will back everything up when it’s plugged into the charger, connected to Wi-Fi, and screen locked. Maybe just upgrade your iCloud plan, plug the phone in overnight and then look the next morning to see if any of the photos were uploaded.

I will start there. Thanks for the heads up.

Still open to other suggestions.
