Hi all! Recently removed my iphone from the case and noticed there are many spots on the aluminium case wherby the paint appears to have chipped off. Did not dropped the phone or anything? Is this a common issue as I'm pretty shocked by how easy it took for the paint to fall off.

Also considering the phone still has the 1 year limited warranty, do you think it will be an idea to drop by apple or will it be a wasted trip due to cosmetic damage.

I had the same issue with my gold color iPhone 11 Pro. When I traded it in for the 14 Pro I got it had several scratches on the frame. The cell phone store I traded it in never said a word and accepted it as in pristine condition and I got the max allowable trade in value. They told me minor scratching was acceptable to the frame as long as the screen was perfect and it was. My iPhone 11 Pro spent its entire time with me in a Otterbox case

Damn thats good to know that the resell value is still there. Thanks alot! In the end i went to the genius bar and they told me that its a very common issue with new iphones due to the way apple coats the paint on the aluminium which is a bummer. Ultimately i decided to get a skin and protector for my aluminium to prevent it from peeling any further.

Its anodizing not paint and it’s applied microscopically thin. Anodizing creates an aluminum oxide by corroding the outer surface with different chemicals to create different colors and sometimes it can chip off if the surface it was applied to wasn’t perfectly clean.

Had this also on my aluminium blue iPhone 12. Something must have gotten caught inside the case. It cause a tiny chip on the edge of the frame. Very annoying considering the whole point of the case.

Now I am using a 13 in that same colour as yours, but without a case. Dropped it and got a small dent on the corner. Paint stayed on though. So really the choice is between a shiny chip or a small dent, the latter is least visible ;)
